Sustainability Policy
At Filmed In Space, we are committed to conducting all our product launches in a 100% sustainable manner, with a 99% craft recovery rate. We prioritise compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations to minimize any negative impact on the environment.
To achieve this goal, we have adopted the following sustainable practices for every near space balloon launch:
-
We use hydrogen gas instead of helium for lift, as hydrogen is more cost-efficient, renewable, and produces minimal hazardous by-products during production.
-
Our high-altitude balloons are made of natural undyed latex, which is non-toxic, biodegradable, and degrades at the same rate as an oak leaf. We recover most of the balloon material after each flight, while any small pieces that separate from the craft are organic and harmless to animals and soil fertility.
-
Our launching craft and all associated components are recovered and re-used after each flight. We construct all launch craft components in-house using recycled and reusable materials for long-lasting sustainability. Any electronic components on the craft are powered by rechargeable power sources.
-
We schedule multiple launches on the same day to minimize transportation impact.
-
We implement a digital-first documentation policy, where all paperwork, data, and correspondences are created and stored digitally, with physical versions only produced when necessary.
By implementing these sustainable practices, Filmed In Space strives to contribute positively to the environment and society.
